The Fort Marlborough was built in 1714 by the British Governor, Joseph Collet, is located near Long Beach, Bengkulu Province. Construction of the Fort Marlborough lasted for five years until 1719.

The fortress is still sturdy, though was renovated in 1984 is comprised of prisons, military barracks, ammunition storage facilities, offices, and underground tunnels. Southeast Asia's largest fortress made by England was once a place of detention of the first Indonesian President, Sukarno, when he was exiled to Bengkulu.

Interestingly, when viewed from above, the fortress which occupies an area of 3.5 hectares is shaped tortoise. The main entrance surrounded by wide moat which is connected by bridge to the inner gate. Construction of the building itself is very strong that shows the greatness of the British architectural design at the time.
